Duties

  • Responsible for general servicing of privately owned vehicles (POV).
  • Conducts oil changes in vehicles of all makes and models.
  • Drains and changes lubricants in crank cases, differentials and transmissions.

  • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • Subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2.
  • Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
  • A medical assessment may be required due to physical effort and lifting requirement of 40 pounds.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Work experience directly related to the duties described above to include the skill and knowledge required.

Work experience below:

Responsible for general servicing of privately owned vehicles (POV). Conducts oil changes in vehicles of all makes and models. Drains and changes lubricants in crank cases, differentials and transmissions. Selects proper oil and lubricant types. Changes oil and air filters. Checks vehicle fluid levels. Ensures proper storage of oils and lubricants. Maintains records of oil and lubricant usage. Duties may include checking vehicle components such as spark plugs, fan belts, tail pipes, hoses and similar items, using common hand, air and electrical tools and equipment, and operating lifts, hoists, battery cell testers/hydrometers, automatic car wash. and high pressure cleaning equipment. Replaces minor vehicle accessories such as rearview or side mirrors. May be required to rotate, repair or replace tires. Opens and closes facility. Operates cash register. Ensures safe operation of equipment. Ensures clean and safe environment for patrons and co-workers. Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Must have ability to properly drain and change lubricants, replace filters and check fluid levels of vehicles. Must be skilled in the use of common hand tools. Must have ability to use equipment such as high-pressure cleaners and to select proper tools for each job. Knowledge of when tools and equipment should be cleaned and lubricated.

RESPONSIBILITY: The supervisor assigns work either orally or in writing. Work is seldom checked while in progress, but rather on the basis of customer satisfaction in completing assignments. Selects proper tools for the job at hand and has responsibility in determining work methods and sequences.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing and crouching. Works in awkward positions when performing work in lube pits or from car racks.

WORKING CONDITIONS:Works inside and outside. Generally, however, work is performed inside in areas that are dirty, oily, greasy and damp. Subject to minor cuts, bruises and burns.
